| Beschrijving voorzijde | Confronted foreparts of a lion and a bull in high relief, the lion striding to the right with open jaws and a pronounced mane rendered in stylized striations, facing the bull forepart advancing to the left with a globular eye and incised musculature. The two animals meet at center field in the characteristic Lydian heraldic device associated with royal authority under Kroisos. No inscription or border is present; the irregular flan exhibits the bold, sculptural style typical of Sardian mint production of the mid-sixth century BC. |
