Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of Kotys III facing right, rendered in the local Bosporan style with characteristically bold, somewhat stylized features. The hair is depicted in flowing striated locks swept back from the forehead. The circular legend ΒΑϹΙΛΕΩϹ ΚΟΤΥΟϹ (King Kotys) runs around the periphery of the flan, bordered by a beaded toothed outer rim. The portrait, while reflecting Hellenistic royal conventions, retains a distinctly provincial artistic character typical of Bosporan coinage of the third century AD.
