Obverse description Griffin seated left within a plain incuse circle, the creature depicted in a dynamic posture with its right forepaw raised and tail curling upward behind. The body is rendered with careful attention to musculature, with dotted wing feathers visible along the raised wing. The head, turned slightly upward, bears the characteristic open beak and crested plumage typical of the Abderite griffin type. The design fills the flan with confident, high-relief workmanship characteristic of Thracian mint engraving of the early fourth century BC.
