Reverse description Athena Nikephoros seated left on a throne, her right hand extended and holding a small Nike, while her left arm rests upon a large round shield set against the side of the throne; a transverse spear rises diagonally in the background behind her. The royal legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ runs in two lines flanking the figure, identifying the issuing authority as King Lysimachus. A monogram appears in the inner left field as a mint control mark, the letters ΒΥ (abbreviation for Byzantion) are placed below the throne, and an ornate trident occupies the exergue as the principal civic symbol of Byzantion.
