| Obverse description | Diademed head of the deified Alexander III facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with flowing, naturalistic hair and the distinctive curling ram's horn of Zeus-Ammon emerging behind the ear — a divine attribute asserting his divine lineage. The portrait is executed with considerable sculptural depth, the diadem clearly rendered across the forehead with ribbon ends trailing behind. The flan is slightly irregular, as typical of hammered Hellenistic gold coinage of this period. |
