| Obverse description | Helmeted head of Athena facing right, depicted in the Attic-Corinthian style characteristic of Alexandrine coinage. The goddess wears a triple-crested Corinthian helmet, the bowl of which is decorated with a coiled serpent in relief. The facial features are rendered with fine Hellenistic workmanship, displaying a well-modeled profile with delicate proportions consistent with eastern mint production of the period. |

Alexander's gold staters were struck at mints stretched from Macedonia to Babylon and beyond, and attributing pieces to specific eastern facilities remains one of the more contested problems in Hellenistic numismatics. The "Price#–" citation signals this piece falls outside Martin Price's 1991 corpus entirely — either an unrecorded die combination or a mint whose output Price could not confidently place. That happens more than the catalog suggests.
The decade spanning 320–310 BC saw Alexander's successors, the Diadochi, rapidly co-opting his coin types to assert legitimacy over fractured territories. Production authority was genuinely ambiguous during these years.
