Pumiathon was the last king of Kition, the Phoenician city-kingdom on Cyprus, ruling under shifting allegiances as Alexander's campaigns reshaped the eastern Mediterranean. He initially sided with Alexander but was later condemned and executed — likely around 312 BC — after backing the wrong faction in the wars of the Diadochi. These gold staters, struck in Alexander's name but under Pumiathon's authority, date to the narrow window when Kition still functioned as a semi-autonomous mint, one of several Cypriot workshops producing Alexandrine-type coinage during the conquest period.
Price 3100 is among the rarer Cypriot issues in the Alexander series.
