Struck posthumously in Alexander's name at Lampsakos, a mint that had been producing Alexandrine coinage since the king's lifetime and continued well into the Diadoch period. After Alexander's death in 323 BC, his successors maintained his coin types across dozens of mints partly as a matter of commercial convenience — the types were trusted across the Mediterranean and Near East — and partly to assert legitimacy through association with his name.
The Lampsakos mint on the Hellespont held strategic value for controlling Aegean trade routes, and it changed hands repeatedly during the Wars of the Diadochi. Price 1432 falls within the period when the region was contested between Antigonus and Lysimachus.
