| 裏面の説明 | Nike, the goddess of victory, standing in left profile in a graceful three-quarter pose, her wings partially spread. In her extended right hand she holds a wreath, and in her lowered left hand she carries a stylis (naval standard). The figure is rendered with delicate drapery falling in naturalistic folds. In the left field, a corn ear symbol appears as a mint control mark, and beneath Nike's left wing a monogram is placed as an additional control mark. The reverse legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right field, identifying the issue as struck in the name of Alexander. |

Abydos, positioned at the narrowest point of the Hellespont, was one of several western Anatolian mints activated to pay Alexander's troops during and immediately after the eastern campaigns. Production here under the Alexander type continued posthumously, running through the period of the First Diadochi Wars as the successors scrambled to control both the treasury and the legitimizing power of Alexander's name. Price 1518 is among the more precisely attributed Abydine issues, distinguished by its control marks from the broader and often confused corpus of posthumous Alexander staters.
