| Additional information |
Salamis, the dominant city-kingdom on Cyprus's eastern coast, came under Macedonian influence following Alexander's campaigns in the eastern Mediterranean. The city's mint struck gold staters in Alexander's name under Nikokreon, the last king of Salamis, who remained a loyal Macedonian ally until Alexander's death in 323 BC — after which Nikokreon himself died in the violent succession struggles that consumed Cyprus within a decade.
Price 3135 is among the rarer Cypriot issues in the Alexander coinage corpus, the island's output dwarfed by the enormous Phoenician mints at Sidon and Tyre.
