Obverse description A griffin seated to the left in high relief, rendered with exceptional sculptural quality characteristic of the Abderite mint. The creature is depicted with powerful leonine haunches, a curved eagle's beak, prominent curling wings spread above its back, and a raised forepaw resting on the ground line. The body exhibits fine engraving detail in the feathering and musculature, set within a plain circular border against a smooth field.

Reverse description Within a shallow incuse square, a bearded male head facing left, identified as the eponymous magistrate Dionysas, wearing an ivy wreath with clearly rendered leaves and berries, the hair rendered in fine wavy locks falling to the nape. The beard is depicted with tight curls typical of the late classical Abderite style. The magistrate's name ΔΙΟΝΥΣΑΣ is distributed around the head in Greek characters — Δ upper left, Ι upper right, Ο and Ν to the right, Υ lower right, Σ lower center, and ΑΣ to the left — filling the incuse field.
