Obverse description A prancing horse to the right rendered in high relief, its forelegs raised and mane finely detailed with incised lines. Behind the horse, the bearded head of Dionysos faces right, depicted with curly hair and a full beard in archaic Greek style. The composition fills the broad, slightly irregular oval flan, with the figures rendered in bold, confident craftsmanship characteristic of Thracian mint work of the late fifth century BC. The field is smooth and unlettered.

Reverse description A central square incuse frame encloses a grapevine in full fruit, its sinuous trunk rising from the base and branching outward to bear multiple clusters of grapes, rendered with fine naturalistic detail. The Greek legend EΠI ΔEONYOΣ is disposed around the outside of the square frame, with individual letters placed at the corners and along the sides, reading as the name of the eponymous magistrate Dionysios. The overall composition is a hallmark type of Maroneia, a Thracian city renowned for its wine, with the vine symbolizing the city's Dionysiac identity and commercial wealth.
