Obverse description Bare-headed and diademed portrait bust of Demetrius I Soter facing right, rendered in high relief with distinctly fleshy, naturalistic features characteristic of late Seleucid portraiture. The diadem is tied at the nape with trailing ends visible behind the neck, and the hair is rendered in fine layered strands swept back from the forehead. The king's prominent nose, full chin, and broad neck convey a sense of vigorous royal authority. The flan is irregular and slightly scalloped at the periphery, typical of hammered gold issues of this period. No legend appears on the obverse.
