This issue falls within the period immediately following the liberation of Thebes from Spartan occupation in 379 BC, when a small group of exiles led by Pelopidas seized the Kadmeia in a night raid and expelled the Spartan garrison. The Theban mint resumed full civic output almost at once, and the staters struck across the next decade funded the military buildup that culminated at Leuktra in 371 BC — the battle that shattered Spartan land dominance permanently.
The "Daim" magistrate designation ties this piece to a specific issuing official, one of several whose abbreviated names appear on Boiotian federal coinage of the period and are catalogued by Hepworth's die study.
