Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in fine Hellenistic portrait style, with naturalistic facial features and short hair rendered in layered strands. The portrait is set within a plain circular border with no surrounding legend. The flan is slightly irregular, consistent with hammered gold coinage of the Bosporan Kingdom. The modelling of the face reflects the influence of Roman imperial portraiture as adopted by Bosporan die-cutters.
