| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Augustus facing right, rendered in high relief in the Hellenistic portrait tradition. The effigy displays closely cropped hair with characteristic comma-shaped locks swept forward across the brow, a strong jaw, and a naturalistic facial treatment typical of early Julio-Claudian portraiture as adapted by Bosporan die-cutters. The truncation of the neck is plain, with no drapery visible. The field is smooth and unadorned, with no legend on this face, consistent with the Bosporan royal stater series that reserved inscriptions for the reverse. |
