| Описание реверса | A thunderbolt depicted vertically at centre, rendered in detailed relief as the divine attribute of Zeus, with stylised flame-like projections at each end. To the left stands an eagle with closed wings, facing left, perched on a horizontal ground line; the eagle serves as a further emblematic attribute of Zeus and is a hallmark of Epirote royal coinage. The ethnic legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ ΤΟΥ ΝΕΟΠΤΟΛΕΜΟΥ is disposed around the field, identifying the issuer as Alexander I Molossos, son of Neoptolemos, king of Epeiros. The composition is arranged with heraldic clarity in the tradition of late Classical Greek civic silver coinage. |

| Дополнительная информация |
This stater belongs to a peculiarly compressed episode: the Italian campaign of Alexander I of Epeiros, who crossed the Adriatic at Tarentum's invitation in 334 BC to fight the Lucanians, Bruttians, and Samnites on their behalf. The arrangement soured quickly. Alexander concluded his own treaty with Rome and began maneuvering for personal control of Magna Graecia, alarming the very Tarentines who had summoned him. He was killed at the Acherousian river near Pandosia around 330 BC, betrayed by Lucanian exiles in his own camp.
The coin's attribution to Traité IV#331 places it firmly within the Epeirote royal issues struck during this campaign rather than as a Tarentine civic emission.
