| Beschrijving keerzijde | Nike, goddess of victory, standing in left profile, her wings spread behind her. She extends her right hand forward to present a wreath, while her left hand holds a naval stylis (a ship's stern ornament), referencing Macedonian maritime victories. The goddess is draped in a flowing chiton with fine drapery folds rendered in high relief. In the left field, a bucranium (ox-skull) serves as a mint control symbol. The reverse legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs to the right of the figure in two lines, identifying the coin as struck in the name of Alexander. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Struck at Sardis following Alexander's capture of the city in 334 BC, this issue was funded in part by the enormous Persian treasury at Sardis itself — a financial windfall that allowed Alexander to pay off his troops' debts and bankroll the early campaign eastward. Price 2539 places this emission among the earlier Sardis output, before the mint's full production capacity was brought to bear for the later, larger issues.
