Beschrijving keerzijde Nike, the goddess of victory, stands facing left in a graceful contrapposto posture. She extends her right hand forward to present a wreath, while her left shoulder supports a stylis (naval standard). Her drapery falls in naturalistic folds consistent with the refined engraving traditions of the Alexandrine period. The reverse legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ appears in Greek characters, identifying the coin as an issue of Alexander, and is typically disposed along the right field.

Aanvullende informatie

Alexander established a mint at Memphis shortly after his occupation of Egypt in 332 BC, using bullion drawn largely from Persian treasury stocks captured at Issus and Damascus the previous year. The Memphis mint operated only during his lifetime, closing with his death in Babylon in 323 BC. Price 3967 is among the more precisely attributed staters from this facility, identified by specific die linkages rather than findspot alone.
