| Beschrijving voorzijde | Youthful laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in fine high relief with flowing hair falling behind the neck and delicate facial features characteristic of late Classical Greek die-cutting. The laurel wreath is depicted with carefully engraved individual leaves. The portrait displays the idealized naturalism typical of Greek coinage from the mid-fourth century BC. |

Kios, the Bithynian Greek city on the Propontis, issued precious metal coinage only rarely, and civic gold of this period is exceptionally uncommon — most Greek poleis of comparable size never struck gold at all. The magistrate name Agasikles appears on a small cluster of staters, suggesting a brief window of authorization, possibly connected to the disruption of Persian-controlled regional trade networks during Alexander's campaigns into Asia Minor after 334 BC.
