| Beschrijving keerzijde | A kithara (lyre) depicted frontally at the center of the reverse, rendered in precise detail with visible strings, resonating body, and scroll-ended arms. The instrument rests on a crossbar, and the whole composition is symmetrical and boldly struck. The ethnic legend ΧΑΛΚΙΔΕΩΝ is disposed in Greek capitals around the periphery of the field, with individual letters placed between the arms of the kithara and along the outer border, reading: Χ to the left, Α at top, Λ-ΚΙΔ to the right, and ΕΩΝ continuing around. The design is a hallmark of Chalkidean League coinage, reflecting the cultural prominence of Apollo and music in the league's iconographic program. |
