Reverse description The cult statue of Artemis Ephesia (the Ephesian Artemis) depicted facing, shown frontally in the distinctive xoanon form: a multi-breasted or decorated torso surmounting a tapering column-like lower body adorned with rows of beaded ornaments, flanked on each side by a stag. The abbreviated ethnic legend ΕΦ (for ΕΦΕΣΙΩΝ) appears in the fields, Ε to the left and Φ to the right of the cult image, identifying the issuing city of Ephesos.
