| 背面描述 | Shallow circular incuse square containing an amphora at center; a club pointing right appears in the upper field above the amphora, and a kantharos is positioned to the right in the lower field. The retrograde ethnic inscription 'Ε Θ' (abbreviation for Thebes) is distributed across the lower field, flanking the central device. All design elements are rendered in relief within the incuse depression, typical of the archaic and early classical Boeotian minting tradition. |

Thebes during this period was navigating a delicate position within the Boeotian League, nominally leading a confederation whose member cities resented Theban dominance — a tension that would eventually resolve, violently, in Thebes' favor after Leuctra in 371 BC. The staters issued under League authority carry the Boeotian federal types precisely because no single city could yet assert exclusive monetary control.
BCD 402 is a well-documented specimen from the Boiotia collection, one of the most rigorously catalogued regional Greek series of the twentieth century.
