| Beschrijving keerzijde | A tripod with an elongated neck surmounted by laurel wreaths rendered in relief, the legs terminating in lion's paw feet, a sacred symbol of Apollo Pythaios and the prestige of Kroton. The ethnic inscription ϘPO appears to the left of the tripod in archaic Greek letters, identifying the issuing city. An olive spray is depicted to the right of the tripod. The design is executed within a slightly incuse square field, consistent with the metapontine-influenced die-work of Magna Graecia in the late fifth to mid-fourth century BC. |
