Reverse description A bull standing to left, rendered in fine detail with the body in profile, occupying the central field; the retrograde ethnic inscription ΠΟΜΕΣΔΑΝ is disposed above the animal. The entire design is set within a deep circular incuse square, a hallmark of the archaic and transitional incuse coinage tradition of Magna Graecia, here persisting into the early Classical period at Poseidonia. The incuse technique creates a mirror-image relief against the recessed background, lending the type a characteristic sculptural quality.
