| Reverse description | A square meander labyrinth of the Classical type, rendered with precise geometric regularity, occupies the full reverse field. At the center of the labyrinth appears a facing or turned head of the Minotaur, the mythological creature intimately associated with the legendary Cretan palace at Knossos. The entire design is enclosed within a concentric border of pellets, framing the composition and emphasizing its symbolic importance. The labyrinth motif served as the principal civic emblem of Knossos and is one of the most iconic reverse types in ancient Greek numismatics. |
