Obverse description Eagle displayed in three-quarter view, wings spread and folded upward, depicted in the act of seizing or devouring a serpent coiled beneath it. The raptor's head is turned sharply to the left, with the serpent's body visible beneath the bird's talons. The design is rendered in the severe Early Classical style, with bold, deeply cut feather detailing and a strong, naturalistic plasticity characteristic of the Elean mint circa 460 BC. The scene fills the broad, slightly concave flan, with the incuse square pattern faintly visible in the field to the right.
