| Description du revers | Vertically oriented thunderbolt of Zeus centered in the field, flanked above by outspread wings and terminating below in symmetrical volutes, the whole executed in bold relief. The letters A (alpha) and F (digamma) appear in the field to either side of the thunderbolt, representing the ethnic abbreviation for the Eleans (AFELION), the governing authority of the sanctuary. The entire design is contained within a shallow incuse circle, a stylistic convention typical of Peloponnesian coinage of the early Classical period. |
