Obverse description Two rampant lions displayed in heraldic confrontation, each standing erect on its hind legs with outer forepaws raised and meeting at center above, and inner forepaws lowered and touching; both heads reverted outward in the archaic style. A lotus flower occupies the central field between the two felines. The composition is rendered in the bold, schematic manner characteristic of early Ionian electrum coinage of the sixth century BC.
