| Obverse description | Two rampant lions displayed in heraldic confrontation, each standing erect on its hind legs with outer forepaws raised and meeting at center above, and inner forepaws lowered and touching; both heads reverted outward in the archaic style. A lotus flower occupies the central field between the two felines. The composition is rendered in the bold, schematic manner characteristic of early Ionian electrum coinage of the sixth century BC. |
