Obverse description Bearded head of a marine deity facing right, rendered in fine archaic-transitional style with a naturalistic treatment of the facial features. The deity wears a laureate wreath of olive or bay leaves above the brow, and the hair and beard are elaborately articulated with rows of closely arranged beaded curls, characteristic of Phoenician-Greek artistic convention. The eye is rendered in a bold, slightly archaic manner, with strong modeling of the cheekbone and jaw. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, with the portrait centrally placed in high relief within the field.
