Locks of hair fall in voluminous curls behind the neck. The portrait fills the flan almost entirely, with a flat, plain field surrounding the effigy. Miletos had long since lost its classical prominence by the time these staters were struck, but the city retained enough commercial weight in the Aegean to maintain a gold coinage during a period when most of its neighbors had abandoned the denomination entirely. The issues fall within the decades of intensifying Roman administrative pressure over western Anatolia, culminating in the bequest of Pergamon to Rome in 133 BC.
The BMC 113 attribution places this among a small, closely related group distinguished by subtle magistrate monograms — the primary tool for sequencing these issues chronologically.
