Obverse description Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology, depicted in dynamic flying gallop to the left, occupying the full field. The creature's elaborately rendered wings are spread upward, with finely engraved feathers shown in layered relief. The body is rendered with careful attention to musculature, and the mane is indicated by a row of pellets along the neck. The tail curves gracefully to the right. The design is characteristic of the Corinthian stater tradition adopted by colonies of Magna Graecia.
