Reverse description Incuse counterpart of the obverse barley ear, rendered as a mirror-image depression in the characteristic Pythagorean incuse technique used by South Italian mints of the archaic period. A dolphin, depicted upward-swimming, appears to the left of the ear in linear relief within the incuse field. The stark contrast between the deeply recessed field and the linear relief elements creates a striking visual effect emblematic of early Metapontine coinage.
