正面描述 Head of a roaring lion facing left in high relief, rendered in the archaic style characteristic of early Lycian coinage. The beast displays prominent open jaws with clearly modelled teeth, a large almond-shaped eye, and a finely detailed mane indicated by a row of pellets along the neck and by ridged striations across the forehead and crown. The powerful, naturalistic modelling of the leonine head fills the flan, executed with notable artistic vigour typical of the late archaic period.

附加信息

The Lycian League of this period was not yet the formalized federal institution it would become under Roman reorganization — these early staters predate the league's classical coinage by generations, placing this issue among the archaic coinages of the region's dynastic city-states operating under loose collective identity. Lycia's unusual political structure, where dynasts ruled semi-autonomously while acknowledging shared Lycian identity, produced a coinage tradition distinct from both the Greek and Persian monetary systems pressing in from either side.

The SNG von Aulock 4049 reference places this firmly within a well-documented but numerically scarce archaic grouping.
