Obverse description Facing view of a Boeotian shield rendered in high relief, its characteristic cutouts at left and right clearly delineated by raised borders. The convex central boss dominates the field, with the four lateral notches precisely incised to replicate the distinctive form of this regional defensive armament. The shield fills nearly the entire flan, emphasizing its emblematic importance as the principal civic symbol of the Boeotian League. The treatment is bold and sculptural, consistent with the finest Theban die-cutting of the late fifth century BC.
