Stater

Dyrrachion — the Greek colonial city on the Adriatic coast known later to Romans as Dyrrachium — struck these staters as part of a regional silver coinage that facilitated trade between the Illyrian interior and the Mediterranean world. The city's position made it the natural terminus of the overland route that would eventually be formalized as the Via Egnatia, and its mint was correspondingly active through the fourth century. The Pegasi reference points to the pegasos-type series catalogued by that specialized corpus, with BMC Greek#10 placing this specimen among the earlier, heavier examples before progressive weight reductions took hold in the Hellenistic period.
