背面描述 A horse standing to the right in a proud, alert posture with its head turned slightly forward, the mane rendered with careful detail in parallel incised lines. The animal stands on a ground line composed of a rope or cable pattern, beneath which a small palm branch or exergual device appears. The entire reverse field is enclosed within a prominent beaded border, consistent with other Carthaginian gold issues of the late fourth century BC.

附加信息

These gold staters were struck in Sicily, almost certainly at a mint operating in Carthage's Sicilian territory rather than in North Africa itself — the precise location remains debated, with Lilybaeum and a mobile military mint both proposed. Their production falls squarely within the period of Carthage's sustained military campaigns against the Greek cities of Sicily, wars that demanded hard coinage for mercenary pay. Carthaginian commanders relied heavily on hired troops from Iberia, Campania, and Libya, and gold staters were the currency of that contract.
