Obverse description Forepart of a winged boar advancing to the right, rendered in bold high relief with a scalloped, scale-like body and prominent swept wings depicted with finely engraved feather striations. The animal's muscular forelegs are extended in a striding posture, and the head is turned slightly with an open jaw. The naturalistically modelled creature fills the irregular flan, which displays a characteristic lobed or granular border. The style is characteristic of the archaic Ionian tradition, exhibiting strong plastic modeling and vigorous artistic execution typical of late 6th-century BC Klazomenian coinage.
