Obverse description A griffin with curved, upswept wings seated in profile to right, raising its left foreleg in a heraldic posture; to the right in the field, a small lion head facing right serves as a subsidiary type. The griffin, emblematic civic badge of Teos, is rendered in the fine archaic-to-early-classical style characteristic of Ionian coinage of the mid-fifth century BC. The ethnic inscription THI appears in the field, identifying the issuing city. The flan shows the broad, slightly irregular fabric typical of early Teian staters struck on the Ionic weight standard.

Reverse description A quadripartite incuse square divided by raised ridges into four recessed compartments of roughly equal size, each with an irregular granular surface resulting from the punch strike. The design is entirely geometric, with no additional devices or inscriptions, conforming to standard archaic Greek reverse types in which the incuse serves purely as a mechanical counterpart to the obverse die. The incuse is deeply impressed and retains sharp ridge definition despite the worn flan surfaces visible on this example.
