| Beschrijving keerzijde | Helmeted head of Athena in left-facing profile, wearing a Corinthian helmet pushed back on the head, rendered in fine archaic-to-early classical style. A dolphin appears above in the upper field, serving as an auxiliary symbol. To the right of Athena's neck, a forepart or head of a griffin (alternatively identified as a ketos, a sea-monster) is depicted as a secondary symbol in the field. The reverse is incuse in the broad Corinthian tradition, with the goddess's features rendered with careful attention to the cheek, nose, and chin. The overall composition reflects the high standard of Corinthian die engraving of the early fourth century BC. |
