Obverse description Bull standing left in high relief, head turned back to right, rendered with finely engraved striations on the mane and muscular body modeled in the round. The figure is set upon a plain exergual line and enclosed within a beaded border. The abbreviated ethnic legend ΥΜ (for Sybaritōn) appears in the upper field above the bull's back. The composition reflects the accomplished archaic Greek die-cutting tradition of Magna Graecia, with naturalistic yet stylized treatment of the bovine form characteristic of early Sybarite coinage.
