| Obverse description | Two nude male wrestlers grappling in the palaestra, facing one another in a symmetrical composition, their muscular bodies rendered in high relief with dynamic tension; each figure bends forward with arms interlocked at the waist in a clinch. The Greek letters ΠO appear in the field between the contestants at lower centre, likely representing a magistrate's or mint official's abbreviation. The scene is framed by a beaded border and exhibits the vigorous, naturalistic style characteristic of Aspendian coinage of the 4th–3rd centuries BC. |
