| Obverse description | Laureate head of Apollo facing left, rendered in fine archaic-to-classical transitional style with softly modeled features and flowing locks of hair falling behind the neck. The god's youthful visage displays a refined profile with a straight nose, slightly parted lips, and almond-shaped eye. A laurel wreath crowns the head, its leaves and berries rendered in careful relief. The divided legend ΤΑΡΑ and ΣΑ appears in the field flanking the head, identifying the issuing city of Tarentum. |

| Reverse description | Herakles depicted in dynamic action, standing and raising his club aloft in his right hand, poised to deliver a blow to the Nemean lion which rears up and attacks him from the right. The hero's muscular body is shown in a twisting posture conveying great tension and movement. A bow and quiver are visible in the left field as attributes of the hero. The abbreviated legend ͰΗ appears in the field, referencing Herakles. The composition reflects the vigorous Tarentine engraving tradition of the late fourth century BC. |
