背面描述 A Pegasos depicted in prancing pose to the right, with both forelegs raised and the head turned slightly outward, rendered in bold relief against a plain field. The creature's large, elaborately detailed wing curves dramatically upward and to the left, with individual feathers indicated by fine engraved lines and stippling. The scaled or patterned hindquarters and curling tail are rendered with considerable detail, reflecting the high artistic standard of Lampsakene coinage. The field is otherwise uninscribed, consistent with the civic gold stater series of Lampsakos.

附加信息

Lampsakos occupied one of the most strategically valuable positions on the Hellespont, controlling grain traffic between the Black Sea and the Aegean during the fourth century. The city's gold staters were struck under Persian suzerainty following the King's Peace of 387 BC, which handed the Asian Greek cities back to Achaemenid authority — a political humiliation Athens and Sparta had fought for decades to prevent. Lampsakene gold circulated widely as a trusted mercantile currency, accepted far beyond the immediate region precisely because the city's position guaranteed its economic relevance regardless of which empire nominally held it.

Production ended abruptly with Alexander's crossing into Asia Minor in 334 BC.
