The lion's musculature and facial features are boldly modelled despite the small flan, with the forelegs visible beneath the chest. The surrounding field is plain, and the flan edges are irregular, typical of early Archaic hammered coinage from Caria. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | Deep incuse square of mill-sail or quadripartite type, containing a roughly modelled lion forepart in relief facing right within the sunken punch, indicating an intermediate stage in the development of reverse types from plain incuse to figured incuse designs. The incuse is irregular in outline and the interior surfaces bear the characteristic tool marks of hand-struck Archaic coinage. The raised border of the incuse punch is sharply defined against the plain coin surface. |
