Kelenderis, a Cilician coastal city with a harbor important enough to appear in Pseudo-Skylax's periplus, struck staters with unusual consistency through the mid-fourth century despite being geographically wedged between Persian administrative pressure from the interior and Greek commercial influence from the sea. The city's coinage remained stubbornly local in style long after neighboring mints had drifted toward Achaemenid conventions.
SNG von Aulock 5639 places this piece among the later emissions of the series, issued as Macedonian expansion under Philip II was already reshaping political arrangements across Anatolia's southern coast.
