| Obverse description | A Persian king or hero rendered in the kneeling-running pose (knielauf), advancing to the right; the figure holds a dagger in the raised right hand and a strung bow in the left. The dynamic, archaic treatment of the body is characteristic of Achaemenid-influenced Anatolian coinage of the mid-fifth century BC. The design is set within a shallow incuse square formed by the die. |
