Obverse description Facing right, the helmeted head of Athena rendered in high relief in the fine South Italian Greek style. The Attic helmet is surmounted by a prominent crest and decorated on the bowl with the figure of Skylla, depicted as a female torso with serpentine coils below, a defining iconographic feature of Thourian coinage. A small phi (φ) appears as a control mark in the right field. The portraiture displays the accomplished artistry characteristic of Magna Graecia die engravers of the early fourth century BC.
