Soloi was one of the principal Greek colonies on the Cilician coast, and its coinage of this period reflects the city's position as a commercially active port with strong ties to both the Aegean world and the Achaemenid interior. The late fifth and early fourth centuries BC saw Cilician mints operating under varying degrees of Persian administrative pressure, and Soloi navigated that tension by maintaining a distinctly Greek civic coinage while the satrapal authority at Tarsus issued its own parallel series.
