Obverse description Boeotian shield depicted in high relief at center, its characteristic concave sides and lateral notches rendered with bold plasticity. The shield occupies virtually the entire flan and is surrounded by a carefully incised decorative border of alternating rectangular and short vertical elements, creating a meander-like frame around the entire circumference. The surface of the shield is convex and smooth, with the cut-outs flanking the central boss rendered in fine detail. The overall style is consistent with the archaic to early classical Boeotian coinage tradition, emphasizing the emblematic civic symbol of the Boeotian League.
